Virtual Psychiatric Evaluation in New York
Your first step toward clarity, diagnosis, and a care plan built around you — conducted entirely via secure video, available across New York State.
What is a psychiatric evaluation?
A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive, one-on-one assessment conducted by a licensed psychiatrist or psychiatric provider. It is the essential first step in your mental health care journey — giving your provider a full picture of who you are before any treatment begins.
At Open Door Psychiatry, your initial evaluation is never rushed. We take the time to understand your complete history — mental, medical, personal, and cultural — so that every recommendation we make is grounded in your real life, not a checklist.
What to expect at your first appointment
01
Before your visit
You'll complete a secure intake form covering your medical history, current concerns, and any prior mental health treatment. This helps us make the most of your time together.
02
Your evaluation session
Your provider will meet you via HIPAA-compliant video. You'll have an open, confidential conversation covering your symptoms, personal history, lifestyle, and goals. Sessions typically run 60–75 minutes.
03
Your care plan
Following your evaluation, your provider will share a diagnosis (where applicable), a personalized treatment plan, and clear next steps — which may include medication management, therapy, or both.
