Virtual Individual Therapy in New York

One-on-one therapy that goes at your pace, honors your story, and meets you exactly where you are — delivered entirely via secure video across New York State.

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy is a private, one-on-one relationship between you and a licensed therapist — a dedicated space to explore your thoughts, feelings, patterns, and goals without judgment.

At Open Door Psychiatry, therapy is not a scripted process. Our licensed social workers and therapists draw from multiple evidence-based approaches — including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic Therapy — and tailor every session to what you actually need, not a predetermined framework.

All individual therapy sessions are conducted via HIPAA-compliant secure video, available to adults across New York State including Long Island, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and New York City.

Therapy approaches we use

01

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

A structured, goal-oriented approach that helps you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns driving anxiety, depression, and other conditions. Practical, evidence-based, and highly effective.

02

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Combines CBT with mindfulness and acceptance strategies — particularly effective for emotional regulation, relationship difficulties, and managing intense or overwhelming feelings.

03

Psychodynamic Therapy

Explores how your past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns shape your present — helping you build deeper self-awareness and lasting emotional change.

What to expect from therapy at Open Door

Session 1 — Getting to know you

Your first session is about building trust and understanding your story. Your therapist will ask about your history, current concerns, and what you're hoping to get from therapy. There is no pressure to share more than you're ready to.

Ongoing Sessions — Your pace, your goals

Sessions are 50 minutes, conducted weekly or bi-weekly depending on your needs. Your therapist will regularly check in on your progress and adjust the approach as your goals evolve.

Integrated Care — When needed

If medication may also be beneficial, our in-house psychiatric providers can work alongside your therapist — giving you coordinated, whole-person care without needing to go elsewhere.
