Mental health care built for women — by women

Women's mental health is not a niche. It is a distinct, complex, and often underserved area of psychiatric care — shaped by hormonal shifts, cultural expectations, generational pressures, reproductive experiences, and life transitions that are entirely unique to women.

At Open Door Psychiatry, women's mental health is central to everything we do — not an afterthought. Our women-of-color–led team brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to every session. We understand what it means to carry a lot, to be everything to everyone, and to put your own mental health last.

We're here to change that.

All care is delivered via secure HIPAA-compliant video — available to women across New York State including Long Island, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and New York City.

Women's mental health conditions we treat

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression affects 1 in 5 new mothers and is far more than "baby blues." We provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric evaluation and treatment for postpartum depression — so you can be present for yourself and your baby.

Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders

Mental health challenges don't only begin after birth. Perinatal mood disorders — including prenatal anxiety and depression — are common and highly treatable. We support women through pregnancy and into the postpartum period.

PMDD & Hormonal Mood Changes

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and cyclical mood changes tied to hormonal shifts are real, debilitating, and frequently dismissed. We take them seriously — with tailored treatment that addresses the root cause.

Perimenopause & Menopause

The hormonal transition into menopause can significantly impact mood, sleep, anxiety, and cognitive clarity. Our providers are experienced in supporting women through this stage with psychiatric care that accounts for the full hormonal picture.

Burnout & Chronic Overwhelm

Motherhood, career, caregiving, relationships — women are expected to manage it all. When the weight becomes too much, we offer a space to decompress, reset, and build sustainable strategies for your mental wellbeing.

Trauma & Identity

Whether rooted in childhood, relationships, or systemic experiences, trauma shapes how we move through the world. Our culturally informed team provides trauma-sensitive care that honors your full identity and history.

Beyond one-on-one care — community support programs

Sometimes healing happens in community. Open Door Psychiatry offers structured virtual group programs designed specifically for women navigating shared life experiences.

Millennial Mothers

A virtual support group for millennial moms navigating the intersection of modern motherhood, identity, mental health, and everything in between. A space to be honest about the hard parts.

Moms Unplugged

A group program designed for mothers who need permission to put themselves first — even for an hour. Community, clinical guidance, and genuine connection without the performance.

Divorce Recovery — I Did, I Do, I’m Done!

A structured virtual group for women processing divorce and separation — covering grief, identity rebuilding, co-parenting stress, and rediscovering life on the other side.

All group programs are currently forming. Join the waitlist to be notified when your program opens.

Why women choose Open Door Psychiatry

We Are Women Too

Our practice was founded by women of color who understand — personally and professionally — the unique pressures, stigmas, and systemic barriers women face in accessing mental health care. This is not performative. It is foundational.

Culturally Competent Care

We recognize that culture, identity, faith, family structure, and community play a significant role in how women experience and express mental health challenges. Our care is always informed by who you are, not just what you're presenting with.

Everything in One Place

Psychiatry, therapy, and community support programs — all under one roof, all virtually. No referrals, no fragmented care, no starting your story over with someone new.
